General Product Information - Lucas RITA ignitions and Powerbase alternators


The Powerbase alternator is the solution to many English motorcycles' dim headlights and dead batteries. While the 50% increase in full output (180 watts vs 120 watts) of the Powerbase alternator over previous Lucas alternators is significant, the greatest advantage of the 3-phase alternator appears at low speeds. At 2400 rpm the Powerbase alternator delivers about 150 watts, which is 25% greater than the maximum power of the older single-phase alternators like the RM19 or RM21 . Increased output and the greater reliability of an encapsulated stator and welded rotor make the Powerbase alternator the logical choice when repairing or upgrading the charging system in an English motorcycle. The alternator kit includes two matched positive-earth Zener diodes, a positive-earth 12v rectifier, a 3-phase stator, welded rotor, and some additional wiring.


The Lucas RITA (Racing Ignition Transistor Amplified) supplies increased performance and reliability on the road as well as the race track. Proven at the Isle of Man (Mike Hailwood's record setting Ducati 860 and many classic racers) and in hundreds of thousands of road miles, the RITA's powerful spark and stable timing improve starting and eliminate future "tune-ups" of the ignition system. Most RITAs use an electronic advance, removing the expensive and wear-prone mechanical advance mechanisms. Unlike some electronic ignitions, the RITA amplifier circuits are mounted external to the points compartment of the engine. This makes the RITA more reliable by allowing the amplifier to be shock mounted and separated from the possibly damaging engine heat. A wide variety of reasonably priced ignitions are available, including replacements for the 860/900 Ducati electronic ignition and English magnetos with 3- bolt triangular mounting flanges (like the Lucas K2F). Each kit includes a reluctor, pickup and plate, amplifier, and where necessary a new "points" cover, coils or wiring.
