They are typically made from a thermocouple, which is a device that converts temperature changes into electrical signals. Heat probes are used for a variety of purposes such as monitoring the temperature of the exhaust manifold to prevent overheating, monitoring the temperature of the catalytic converter to ensure that it is working properly, and, logging exhaust temperature data for diagnostic purposes. Heat probes can be damaged by heat, vibration, or corrosion. If a heat probe is damaged, it will need to be replaced to prevent inaccurate temperature readings and other problems.
