Lamborghini Miura P400: Unveiling the World's First Supercar

An icon of the sixties, the Miura set the modern supercar standard. Inspired by motorsport but designed for the road, plans for this unique sports car were drawn up in 1965 and the chassis alone was massively popular with the crowds at the Turin Salon.

When its final form was revealed, fans flocked to place an order and Lamborghini exceeded their original production figure of just 20 in order to meet demand.

A refined version, the P400S, was launched in 1969 and shortly after, even more improvements were made to the Miura with the release of the SV version. This is considered the pinnacle of the line-up and had a boost in power resulting in 385 bhp as well as a big facelift, most notably receiving new lights and a redesigned grille.

From inside the hand-built cockpit, the impressive sound of the twin exhausts can be appreciated as the Miura speeds from 0-60 mph in just 5 seconds.

The V12 engine, utilized from the 400 GT, is mounted transversely in the rear, giving the car a fabulous shape with superb balance and weight distribution.

As the world’s first supercar, the Lamborghini Miura P400 certainly delivered in both performance and style, with beautiful sweeping lines and a top speed of 163 mph - it was actually the world’s fastest car of its time!
